INTRODUCTION:
I am grateful to The Lone Wolf Family for hosting my exhibition and for the music that inspired the artworks. Creating art serves as my expression of pain, joy, healing, and gratitude, and I am delighted to share this journey with you. I hope to be fortunate enough to hear about the sources of your joy and the outlets that bring you happiness.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
DEFIBRILLATOR
Creating this body of work reignited my passion for visualizing the essence of sound. While the medium may vary, I am continuing to explore the correlation between sound, color, and imagery. My artistic pursuit was to translate specific songs into a two-dimensional form that stays true to my creative vision.
For me, striving for perfection is crucial, particularly when certain musical compositions keep playing in my mind on repeat. Creating a digital image enabled me to get the imagery in my mind down quicker as I am listening to a specific song. I replay the tune over and over until the entire journey of the song is complete in a two-dimensional form.
Typically, it's a particular artist or song that resonates with me, but this time, it's an album that caught my attention. After examining Austin Post's (better known as Post Malone) earlier projects, I felt disconnected from the majority, yet enchanted by the album "Austin." The album's raw and emotionally intense approach provided me with a glimpse into a human experience that resonates universally. It is as if he uncovered a wound that echoes deeply in the hearts of listeners.
Examine the artwork displayed for subtle clues. Each piece is titled after a specific song from the album and contains a symbolic link to the double-edged sword that resonates throughout the show. Within each individual artwork you will discover additional imagery and phrases that echo the lyrics of the corresponding song. During the reception, you will hear a curated playlist of chill sounds in between each of the specific “Austin” Album songs that inspired the artworks. The result is a harmonious correlation of sounds, imagery, and color from my artistic journey with the “Austin” Album.
All the best,
AFZ

My impressions of the seen and unseen through color and paint. Music is integral throughout each piece in it's own unique form. A landscape forms from the sounds echoing in my ear. Bubbles and circles constantly arise as a subtle hint of the circle of life. Faces appear and whisper tones of inevitable truth. The years are many, the substance is sporadic but the theme remains in harmony with the emotions developed through sound and color.

A painting has the ability to correspond to music through rhythm and the element of time. My MFA Thesis work consists of carefully choreographed drips that fall on the surface with the force of gravity. It investigates the parallels between music and painted art forms. A sense of time is created through the process of layering paint. Specific colors were picked exactly for the the particular song's musical notes. The tempo of the music determines the collaborative dance between the fluid properties of paint and self.

The geometric work explores a literal connection between a specific musician and the absence of time. The title of the artwork becomes a hint to the title of a particular song or artist being investigated. Follow the lines and you may find a hidden name or title. The exhibition celebrates the process of layering paint and sound physically and metaphysically.

Cubism meets Savannah landscape and the sayings of the Bayou. Inspired by The Bayou Cafe on historic Riverstreet Savannah, these paintings bring the memories of trips to New Orleans back to her hometown and hung in the heart of Cajun Cuisine.
